300 Google Reviews — Thank You.
Tokyo’s Rain Keeps the Market Tight.

Sashimi DC — September 30, 2026 update

This past week Sashimi DC reached the milestone of 300 reviews on Google. Thank you so much for helping our small business.

300 Google Reviews: Why They Matter to a Niche Shop

Reviews are critical for a niche business like ours to be visible to potential customers who need a good alternative source of quality fish other than high-end sushi restaurants. Every review helps someone searching for sashimi-grade fish find us. We keep working hard to provide exceptional quality fish to you.

This Week's Market: Record Rain in Tokyo

Typhoon No. 26 (Surigae) is not directly hitting Japan, but the tide and wind are still high. It is tracking east-northeast south of Honshu and is forecast to become an extratropical low around October 3. Tokyo recorded 34 consecutive days of rainfall from August 27 to September 29, the longest streak on record. Prices at the fish market are still elevated.

This Week's Lineup

We carry the usual items: Bluefin Tuna, Sasshu Salmon, Hokkaido Bafun Uni, Hokkaido Scallops, Kinmedai, Madai, Unagi Kabayaki, Saba, Shiso, and fresh Wasabi.

Schedule Notice: Keita Out Thursday and Friday Evenings

Keita will be hosting a dinner event at The House at 1229 on Thursday, October 1, and taking part in the “Onigiri Action” fundraiser at Fox Mill Elementary School on Friday, October 2, so he will be away from the shop both evenings. Please ask Rice Market staff for fish purchases. Keita is back at the shop this weekend as usual.

Saturday, October 3: Knife Sharpening and Sashimi Slicing Class

The Knife Sharpening and Sashimi Slicing Class runs this Saturday. Bring your own knife, sharpen it on whetstones with guidance from Keita, then practice on sashimi-grade fish. Get tickets, or see our Events page for all upcoming dates.

Sweet Stop: Snow Crane Ice Cream

Keita visited Snow Crane Ice Cream on their last day of residency at Little Pearl (see our earlier post on the Snow Crane Kickstarter) and tried both the Matcha and the Chestnut. Both offered thick flavors that match the season. The two differ in texture: dense for the chestnut, crisp for the matcha. It is not only the flavor; the texture adds to the experience. We look forward to the next step of their emerging ice cream venture.
