We're Back to Full Operations
Operating at Rice Market seven days a week. Hours this week have some variation: closing around 5:00 pm on Wednesday the 25th, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday due to events and scheduling. Normal hours on the weekend. Check @keita_sashimi_dc for same-day updates on those days.
This Week's Fish
The market has improved. This week's lineup:
- Hokkaido Uni — both large and small boxes. Reserve online — limited quantity and both sizes are moving quickly
- Fujisan White Salmon — clean and delicate, from Shizuoka
- Hotate Scallops — back in full stock after the spawning pause
- Nagasaki Bluefin Tuna — all cuts, as always
For delivery orders, schedule your preferred hour within the same day when placing your order. Knife sharpening and fresh wasabi available at the counter.
Omiyage items from Japan are still available while depleting: Baumkuchen, rice kit, pasta sauce, latte kit, Yanagiba knife — in-store only.
Snow Crane Ice Cream — Kickstarter Halfway There
Our neighbors and collaborators at @snowcraneicecream have launched a Kickstarter for their first permanent location in Hyattsville, Maryland — and as of this update, they are halfway to their funding goal. We have already committed, and we're encouraging anyone in the DC food community who hasn't seen their work to take a look.
Snow Crane makes Japanese-inspired ice cream at a level of craft that is genuinely unusual in this market. Their flavors are grounded in the same aesthetic that drives our fish sourcing: ingredients handled with precision, flavor that is defined rather than loud, a result that is unmistakably Japanese without being a literal reproduction. The private dining reward tier added to the campaign is particularly interesting — a rare chance to experience the Michelin-class cuisine behind the counter in your own home. Check their Instagram to find the Kickstarter link.
Goodfellow Sparkling Hours — This Month
A reminder: Sparkling Hours with Goodfellow Family Cellars takes place on June 30th and July 1st. Three sparkling wines, Nigiri pairings, 6:30 pm doors. $36 for three glasses, $12 for additional pours. Tickets at Rice Market Ticketleap →
On Snow Crane: Among the DC food community events we have participated in and the producers we have shared space with at Rice Market, Snow Crane stands out. Their approach to Japanese flavor in dessert form is the culinary equivalent of what we are doing with fish — sourcing with intention, executing with precision, not compromising the result. Their new location will be a destination. Support the Kickstarter if you can.
